FAQ for Tom Book an Appointment

What are your qualifications?

Thirteen years doing individual, relationship and group counseling; Masters Degree, Systems Counseling; Diploma in Group Counseling; Training in Integrative Body Psychotherapy; training and study of many forms and models of Psychotherapy including Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy; Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Do you work with couples and families as well as individuals?

Yes. My experience is that for most people, the most growth and change comes from their work in couples, families or group counseling. This happens because humans evolved as social beings. When we cannot get along in couples, or groups, we are unhappy, depressed and anxious. Our biology works against us when we are isolated or alone even when in the midst of a relationship.

What is you philosophy of counseling?

I am convinced that you are courageous to go down this road. I am moved by your willingness to challenge your pain, frustration, anger, sadness, aloneness or whatever difficulty you are encountering. I believe we all have natural ability to heal and I will put my heart and soul into working with you to discover new ways to be at peace with yourself and the people in your life. I assume that with compassion and understanding we can all grow and achieve our potential.

What can I expect in the first meeting?

We will get acquainted,  talk about why you decided to seek counseling, discuss your goals for counseling and discuss how we will work together. We will discuss confidentiality and boundaries around the work we do together.

Will the meetings be confidential?

By law, I cannot reveal that you are a client and I cannot reveal the content of any of our meetings. There are some exceptions to this that are mandated by law that we will discuss at he first meeting.

Counseling can be expensive. Will I really get my money’s worth?

We hold ourselves back in so many ways. One way we hold ourselves back is by not investing in ourselves. My own experience and the reason I work in this profession is that the counseling I do as a client has had many returns. I find more harmony within myself and my world which has benefited me in relationships, my peace of mind, monetarily and in my mental and physical health. I have more confidence in my skills, abilities and my worth as a human being. I feel as though I belong. By engaging your will, and beginning to be aware, I am sure the same will be true for you.

What do you charge and do you accept insurance? Do you accept Credit Card payments?

My charge is $115 for sessions 50 to 60 minutes in length. I am an in network provider for Premera and other Blue Cross Blue Shield payers. I am an in network provider for Multiplan and BeechStreet affiliated payers. I will submit electronic claims to most insurance companies. I will submit claims for out of network insurance. You are responsible to pay upfront, however, for out of network insurance.

I happily accept MasterCard and VISA payments as well as cash or PayPal.

I understand that you also do Financial Recovery℠ Counseling. How does that relate to the other counseling work you do?

Money carries a tremendous emotional charge for couples and individuals. Money is one way our society expresses the value, admiration, creativity and necessity of the work you do. The way you come to terms with money is a reflection of how you value your work, care for yourself and how committed you are to fulfilling your dreams and goals. Money is not inherently good or bad. It is a tool you use to trade your labor for goods services and entertainment, however you may project your own history and beliefs onto money. This may limit you in your ability to live the life you want to live. My work in this capacity is to help you create a beneficial relationship with money. Meet me at my financial website

A BUDDHIST PRAYER OF FORGIVENESS

If I have harmed anyone in any way either knowingly or through my own confusions I ask forgiveness. If anyone has harmed me in any way either knowingly or unknowingly through their own confusions I forgive them. And if there is a situation I am not ready to forgive I forgive myself for that. For all my ways that I harm myself, negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge or be unkind to myself through my own confusions I forgive myself.
